Cambridge...

This weekend was a bank holiday, so was contemplating where to go as monday was a holiday. So while chatting with my friend who's in Cambridge he asked to come over. When? he said today? huh? 3 hours drive at night? hmmm... ok then :P.

So immediately after work, sent my colleagues back, grabbed a few stuff to sleepover and this gung-ho clueless Malaysian juz plugged away on the van with the outdated GPS navigation system. The place he was staying wasn't even in the list!!... so that was how outdated it was... later found out the highway I took wasn't listed either... (hmmm dun think i would have taken the trip alone if I knew all these! haha...)

Anyway it wasn't really a pleasant weather, drizzling most of the time. Cambridge is a well known old university town, has a long history even before the roman empire and it's universities have spawned many start-up companies working on new technology stuffs. According to stats 25% of ppl here cycle to work....

Anyway some of the famous colleges are King's college, St. John's College, Jesus College and Trinity College, most built between the 12th to 15th century. An advantage of knowing someone local is... you are able to get into the college the back way, without paying the admission fee... ;)

Bridge of Sighs, connects St. John's College over the River. Locals joke that the name of the bridge was due to the sound made by the students as they cross over for exams! haha.

An interesting building that I stumbled upon in Cambridge was this strange round building, It's actually known as the Round Church, the only one of it's kind in England, and it's built in 1130!. Most probably inspired by crusaders coming back from Jerusalem during those times. Didn't realize the significance and history if this church at that time I was walking around, the round shape is supposed to signify the celebration of resurrection. Anyway more info can be found here:

Well all in all it was a great time going round Cambridge amd meeting with my friend Chuan. Since he came over here he's becoming an excellant cook, and my first meal was a home made burger, even the beef patty was grinded by himself! Check out the Superb Cambridge Burger below... till then... cheers all!....

Having Bath?

Few weeks back we took a trip over to this place called Bath, famous because of the 3 hot springs that flows to this town. It's the only natural hot spring in the UK so kinda a major tourist attraction for Brits and tourist alike.
First stop was to the Roman Bath. It actually started of as a shrine built by the Celts dedicated to the goddess Sulis, but when the Romans invaded during the 1st to the 4th century, this town was a hotbed of temples and bathing complexes, and this was the major bath coz of it's association with the goddess and the place being sacred. Due to it's age, the place look like a ruin with a pond in the middle actually... =P, but major reconstruction and "facelift" were done... I think to justify the 10 pounds (RM70!!) that tourist have to pay.

The next place is the Royal crescent. Famous for it's Georgian architecture, a row of buildings shaped into a crescent. As it's difficult to show the shape from ground view pics, I nicked of a public domain pic, so that you guys can see a good overall pic.

Since we've quite some time, with excellant weather, we just walked around and below are some miscelleanous pics.

So since we still had some more time after walking round, we decided to drop by Stonehenge. Personally i think this site is just much ado about nothing.... =P. Just a couple of stones someone arranged couple of tousand years ago.... hei but I'm no historian.... the plains with sheeps around it were more interesting... =P. So that's all till the next update!

Random thoughts...

Have not updated this blog for sometime. Ran out of ideas. =P. Personally I don't really like the idea of publishing personal emo stuffs for everyone to see... feels weird and strange. No offence to those who do that, I do keep up with those also ahaha... So anyway here's a list of what I've been up to:
  • Went to Bath (it's a place ok, not the shower stuff)... pics later
  • Went to Exbury Gardens... pics later
  • Went to Bealieu (pronounced Beuly) and blew 17.25 pounds to see something not worth seeing.... pics later
  • Watched spiderman 3. The tickets here cost RM50. So better be thankful for the ticket prices in Malaysia... and say NO to piracy... ;)
  • Wrote a song and recorded in Linux:Ubuntu
  • Finished reading Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Deception Point by Dan Brown.
  • Forced to buy jeans coz my jeans tore at the knees both sides, cost me RM175!!!
  • Finished reading Jack Higgins: Season in Hell and Alistair McLean's Force 10.
  • Play acoustic guitar, electric guitar and piano for a local church here
  • Jam with some of the church guys every Wednesday
  • Borrowed a Takamine and play it when I'm bored.

Boring life yea... 2 more months of these.... *pengsan*
