Babe in SGH...

Nopes it's not Singapore General Hospital but it's Sinamex Guitar Hospital. Noticed a buzzing sound from the 3rd frets so decided to send my 414ce over to Sinamex (originally Taylor Guitar distributor) to have a look. Went over to Berjaya Times Square, manage to locate them at the 7th floor and had to leave the babe there for a month or so as the guitar "doctor" makes he's visits abt once a month only. Anyway she's in good hands.

Being a first time visitor there. of course hands start getting "itchy" and started testing every playable instrument there. Hahaha. One thing that really caught my attention was this guitar... a Timothy S10J (Sinamex own brand I believe...)

The Timothy S10J

Some specs:

- Medium Jumbo size
- Solid Sitka Sprue top
- Solid Ovangkol back and sides
- Ebony fingerboard
- Wood rosette
- Abalone purfling
- Maple binding
- Bone saddle
- Bone nut
- Fishman Prefix pick up system
- Gold machine heads and Ebony buttons
- Elixir Strings

I tried the other Simon & Patrick and also Breedlove guitars but this really takes the cake. And for it's price, retailing at about RM3K++ I thought it was a good buy.... and it comes with one of the high end fishman pick-up's.

If you are in Singapore I believe you can get a good price as you do not need to pay the 10% charge on instruments we are taxed over here...

By the way... I'll be off for a holiday soon!... yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Sandwiched...

Yups that was what I really felt. I was working on some machines and was a little careless. There's this huge thing which we call the "handler" capable of pulling through abt 100kg of weight... it was moving back towards the "home" position... and yups I was right there working on some stuff... by the time my colleague shouted for me to move away but I was already being slowly squeezed by it... I was trying to force it back but of course... man against machine... Thank God for quick thinking by my friend, she quickly activated the emergency button... so the aftermath was... this:

Yups some lacerations marks through the skin, the skin sort got "teared" off... so feels pretty raw at the moment... and mind you... those marks are made THROUGH the t-shirt, some scratches on the legs and other parts too...

I'm quite OK though... but my colleague was quite traumatized, she didn't want to touch the machine at all afterwards and told hme she dreamt abt the machine at nite! haha...

Anyway conversation with my mum when I was back:

Mum: What happen?

Me: Oh just some small incident when i was working on the machine...

(Quiet for a while...)

Mum: YOU WORK WITHOUT BAJU (clothes) AR??????

Me:Haha... Nola... just some scratches made through the t-shirt...

Mum: So the t-shirt gone la??

Me: Nola... still ok can use...

Hehe... that's all for now... :D

I should...

Well after much mulling and thinking through (quite literally! thought abt it for over 2 months)... I finally decided to get her... let's just say I spent a tidy sum to get this babe... It's a 2001 edition Taylor 414ce. Obviously by the date you can deduce it's a 2nd hand unit. The latest edition goes for RM6K++...
Went up to PJ to grab it last Friday, couldn't really test it out as we're rushing back to Melaka (Michelle has officially graduated! Congrats!). The previous owner is migrating overseas and was looking for a buyer to take care of this babe... he even passed on the leather Taylor Guitar Strap and the chromatic Intellitouch Tuner... it's a real blessing...

So one of the first few things went I did over here was to check for defects and stuff... all I can say it's really well taken care of and just normal usage markings on the guitar. Next, went to City Music to grab a set of Elixir Strings (now going for RM60!!!!)...
Compared playing it with my current Yamaha FGX-413SC (which is stringed with Elixir and is also a cutaway), there's a warmer tone that's produced out of the Taylor and there seem to be a higher amplitude in the midrange frequencies, finger plucking is really superb on the Taylor and strumming produces a "fuller" sound. I haven't had a chance to checkout the pickup, hopefully would be doing so this coming weekend...

So just leave you guys with 2 pics... hopefully I can comeup with a proper review soon... Cheers!

Should I... Shouldn't I?...

She's a beauty ain't she? Should I be the beast?
